Holocaust Survivor's Visit Cultivates Discussion and Creates Lasting Memories

On March 23, 2015, the students of Calloway County Middle School were awarded a special treat . . . an onsite visit from Fred Gross, Holocaust survivor.  During his presentation, Mr. Gross shared experiences from his childhood, especially tales about moving around the French countryside while staying one step ahead of Adolph Hitler and his Nazi soldiers during WWII.

It's rare to have a guest speaker that completely captivates an audience of 8th graders; however, Mr. Gross easily maintained the respect and attention of over one hundred students - for 90 minutes. While visiting, Mr. Gross encouraged students to ask questions and spent some time looking at Hamsa hand artwork on display near the media center.

The presentation came at the end of a unit entitled "Crimes Against Humanity."  During this unit, students studied the Holocaust, read texts pertaining to various crimes against mankind, and conducted research projects pertaining to student-selected topics.

Blessed to teach since 1996, I spend my days doing exactly what I've always wanted to do . . . TEACH.  I'm married to the sweetest man alive, Tim, and we have two beautiful babies, Marlee Rose and Beau Wilson.
