When You know better, you do betteR!
After watching this video, discuss the following in paragraph form.
A. The title of this series is "What Would You Do?". I wonder, what would you do in a similar situation?
B. Discuss the connection between this video segment and other articles we have read in Unit 4.
"Texting While Driving." Dr. Phil, September 10, 2007.
According to this video excerpt, the young lady above has a texting while driving problem. Her mother seems to be aware of it. So, I was wondering - what do you think?
A. Do you agree with Dr. Phil? If so, why? If not, where do you stand on the issue of texting while driving?
B. What type of punishment should a person receive if they have an accident and kill someone while texting and driving?
C. How does this video fit into our unit about social injustices?
According to the common core standards, students should be able to "Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and present the relationships between information and ideas efficiently as well as to interact and collaborate with others." (Writing 8.6)
For this week's blog response, answer the questions below:
1. Based on the performance of your classmates (and yourself), how do you think you're doing with fulfilling this standard?
2. Discuss ways your teachers are fulfilling 8.8.
3. Provide some ideas for fulfilling this standard and still having some fun!
Beginning next week, we will explore argumentation through the lens of social injustices. The concept of what is "Just" versus "Unjust" can be confusing for students. Before we begin the unit, I would like to hear from you. First, what do the terms "Just" and "Unjust" mean to you? Second, what are some unjust things that bother you in society today?
I will use your comments to plan for next week's discussion groups.
